Spirit Airlines Listing Goes Live on Bring a Trailer
Airline described as “mostly complete”
DANIA BEACH—Spirit Airlines has reportedly found signs of life in the enthusiast marketplace after the entire operation was quietly listed on Bring a Trailer late Friday night, described by the seller as a “mostly complete” project with “tons of seat time for the right buyer.”
The listing, which appeared under the “Weekly Weird and Wonderful” section before moderators decided to “just see where this goes,” includes Spirit’s remaining fleet, scattered ground equipment, and most of the baggage handlers.
“It ran great last week,” the description reads. “Only selling because I don’t have the time to finish it. My loss is your gain.”
Photos show rows of yellow Airbus jets in varying states of disassembly, several with interiors stripped down to bare metal. Missing seats are noted as “weight reduction,” while leftover baggage is described as “up for dibs.”
The listing also highlights Spirit’s well-known business model as a feature, not a flaw. “Super lightweight, almost fragile setup from the factory,” the seller notes. “No unnecessary comforts weighing it down. Perfect blank slate if you want to build it your way.”
Despite the optimistic tone, prospective buyers have already begun raising questions in the comment section, with one user asking whether the airline “comes with any real infrastructure,” and another inquiring if the included pilots are “here against their will.”
“Are there any service records?” wrote user FlatPlane69. “Hard to tell from the photos, but it looks like it’s been sitting for a while.”
As of writing this, bidding had reached $2,200, with the reserve still not met. The seller has since updated the listing to note that while the airline is “mostly complete,” it will require “some assembly,” along with “a ton of financing, staffing, regulatory approval, a willingness to overlook things, and a broom that sweeps well under rugs.”
A competing bidder, user HAASExRichEnergy, confirmed they were “pretty serious” about the purchase, adding that they had been “looking for a project like this” ever since their attempt at purchasing the Force India Formula One Team.
