STUTTGART—Making its first public appearance in ten years, a factory-specific triple-offset reverse-thread camshaft alignment tool addressed mounting criticism this week, insisting that car enthusiasts’ hate has more to do with jealousy than necessity.
“They hate us cause they ain’t us,” said the tool, which retails for $427 and only works on one engine produced between March 2011 and July 2012. “You think just anyone can interface with a precision-machined tool they’ll use twice in their lifetime? The tool, manufactured under the careful supervision of a European automaker’s “Revenue Optimization Division,” has received backlash from owners who discovered that a routine oil seal replacement requires three proprietary alignment jigs and a security Torx bit shaped like a melted candy cane.
“It’s not about the money,” the tool continued, resting comfortably inside a foam-lined case that still smells new. “It’s about commitment. If you truly loved your car, you’d invest in me. Every kiss begins with Special Tool K1213213.”
