Piastri Removes Radio and Speakers from All His Cars After Singapore GP
Says “Papaya is such a bad fruit it’s basically a vegetable,” and insists it’s “just until the end of the season and every season after that.”
SINGAPORE—After what many are calling “another clear example that McLaren only loves Lando,” driver Oscar Piastri has reportedly removed every radio and speaker from his cars, apparently declaring he’s done listening for the remainder of the Formula 1 season.
Sources close to the team say the decision came shortly after a tense exchange during the Singapore Grand Prix, when engineers repeatedly reminded Piastri that he’s their number two driver. “Sure, Piastri is clearly more skilled and leading the Drivers’ Championship,” said one mechanic, shrugging. “But Papaya rules, man,” he added, refusing to elaborate further.
When asked for clarification, Piastri delivered a powerful message. “Papaya is such a bad fruit it’s basically a vegetable,” he said, furrowing his brow and wagging a finger. “I’m not saying I hate it, but every time I’m near it, it kind of smells. So yeah, no more radios. Just me, the car, and the winning.”
Team principal Andrea Stella tried to downplay the move, describing it as “an experimental weight reduction strategy,” but appeared confused—as if we were the ones breaking the news to him. “What? Oh, yeah, it’s part of… um… WEIGHT REDUCTION. Yes, weight reduction,” said Stella. “He’ll do anything to win. It’s made things so difficult for us.”
Piastri maintains the change is temporary. “It’s just until the end of the season,” he said, “and every season after that.”
Team sources confirm he’s already begun soundproofing his apartment.
