Offseason Update: Verstappen Breaks All K1 Speed Lap Records Across the Nation on Saturday Evening
K1 venues report “unprecedented battery wear,” running out of medals, and several grown men crying in the lobby.
NATIONWIDE—Four-time world champion Max Verstappen reportedly spent his Saturday evening breaking every known K1 Speed lap record across the United States, according to karting employees who described the event as “technically flawless.”
Witnesses say Verstappen arrived in his Red Bull suit, signed the waiver like a normal customer, and proceeded to set lap times so fast that others were scared to go out on track. Multiple locations confirmed their leaderboards are out of order after failing to keep up.
“He wasn’t celebrating,” said one K1 Speed manager in Ohio. “He just nodded, asked if the kart had a full charge, and then went fast. Again. And again.”
Verstappen’s outing comes just after the close of the Fromula 1 season. Insiders say this is simply how the reigning champion relaxes. Sources close to the driver claim he views lap records the way most people view unread emails.
“Max doesn’t really do rest,” said one Red Bull team member. “He recharges by racing in smaller more casual forms of racing.”
As of Sunday morning, several K1 Speed locations confirmed they are considering creating a separate leaderboard category labeled “Verstappen.”
