Lando Norris Vows to Clinch WDC by Sweeping the ‘Easy Win’
The McLaren Driver says “the hard ones shouldn’t even count.”
MEXICO CITY—McLaren’s Lando Norris has unveiled a genius new strategy ahead of the Mexican Grand Prix. That is to win all the races that “aren’t so hard.” The 25-year-old driver believes this approach will give him a mathematical shot at the World Drivers’ Championship while avoiding the emotional damage of battling drivers like Max Verstappen or Charles Leclerc.
“I’ve realized that the key to success is picking your battles,” Norris said confidently during Tuesday’s press conference. “If Max is having an off weekend, or if he gets a 10-second penalty, or maybe his car explodes, that’s my time to shine. You don’t win titles by racing other drivers. That’s way too intense.”
Sources within McLaren confirm that Norris’ new mindset follows what the team calls a “strategic sanity conservation protocol,” internally known as Papaya Goes Down Easy. Team principal Andrea Stella defended the approach. “Look, if you think about it, all championships are built on consistency,” Stella explained. “And consistency means consistently doing our best to make it easy for Lando to win. It’s modern rich guy racing.”
When asked if he’s worried about Verstappen’s climb in the standings, Norris remained unfazed. “I’m not that intimidated,” he said. “Max can have the hard races, I’ll take the easy ones. Just like in golf, you play the course that suits you. Wait… he’s not behind me, is he?”
Teammate Oscar Piastri seemed supportive, though his motives were unclear. “If the easy ones are the ones where everyone helps him win, then yeah, he’s got a shot,” Piastri said. “My radio is still off, though.”
Analysts aren’t sure if the approach will pay off, but Norris’ confidence in his lack of confidence remains unmatched. The algebra suggests the dream is still very much alive, as long as the calendar keeps offering easy weekends. “When I win,” he added with a grin, “people will finally stop bullying me, like Zak said they would.”
