SILVERSTONE—Max Verstappen’s viral 1v100 performance has come under scrutiny from none other than two-time Formula 1 third-place finisher Jos Verstappen. Unhappy with junior’s performance, Jos has taken to X to express his dissatisfaction with the start, duration, speed, technicality, and finish of the low-stakes, or maybe even no-stakes, race.
“He did that bouncing thing and passed 63 drivers in the first lap and then just stopped doing the bouncing thing,” said a visibly furious Jos. “It took him a whole 13 more laps to get the rest. Why didn’t he just bounce the whole way? He would have been done in two laps.”
Max managed to start from 101st and take the lead of the race in about the same amount of time as my Uber Eats delivery takes to locate my apartment. His fastest lap was also only 2.6 seconds quicker than the next-fastest driver, which would be embarrassing to anyone who knows absolutely nothing about racing.
Everybody did have identical karts. The karts were equalized, including sealed ballast for lighter drivers, which Jos refused to believe.
“There’s no way. There’s no way a son of mine took that long and you guys didn’t do something to the karts,” said Jos. “Toto is behind this, isn’t he? Is he paying for this YouTube video? MAX, get over here. We’re going to the gas station.”
The race was supposed to be a fun and entertaining event, but has instead become potentially Max’s most defining loss of his career despite the inconvenient fact that he won it.
It’s unclear whether Max will give the challenge another shot, but the other 100 drivers would probably love a chance at redemption considering they are the ones who actually lost in an unbelievably short amount of time.
Max was unavailable for comment following the event.
