Honda Disappears Before Magician Has Chance to Make It Disappear
Illusionist says stunt was interrupted by “that one chop shop everyone knows about but somehow never gets caught.”
LAS VEGAS—A highly anticipated illusion set to air on primetime Fox like Evel Knievel in the ’90s went sideways Saturday night after a Honda Civic scheduled to vanish during a live magic show reportedly disappeared right before the magician had the opportunity to make it disappear himself.
Professional millennial illusionist Daniel Morro had planned to close his residency show with a dangerous stunt involving a golden-era Honda Civic covered in a silk curtain. Instead, when stagehands removed the curtain during rehearsal, the vehicle was already gone.
“At first I thought one of my assistants had moved it,” Morro said. “Then I saw my Club sitting on the floor. That’s when I knew this was not part of the act.”
Security footage later revealed two individuals wearing hoodies entering the loading dock approximately 14 minutes before the show was set to start.
“This goes against everything we stand for,” said one stage technician. “You used to have to say ‘abracadabra’ to make something disappear.”
The Civic, described as “tastefully modified” with mismatched fenders and a loud exhaust that sounded like a blender full of rocks, had reportedly been sourced specifically because it was the magician’s dream car.
“I needed something that could connect me and the audience,” Morro explained. “I did not expect it to connect with another magician.”
Local law enforcement declined to comment on the ongoing investigation but did note that it was, in fact, a Honda Civic.
Despite the setback, Morro remains optimistic.
“In magic, anything is possible,” he said in a mysterious cadence, as if already performing a trick. “I can just make it… reappear.”
The Civic had reportedly reappeared in front of the magician, though what returned was mostly a stripped chassis resting on cinder blocks.
