Following Austrian GP Win, Toto Tells George, "OK, You Had Two Turns. Now Give the Controller Back to Kimi."
Russell Says He's Just Happy the Controller Was Plugged In This Time
BRACKLEY—Witnesses say Wolff waited patiently for Russell to finish his champagne shower before reminding the Mercedes driver that the team has a strict policy requiring everyone to let Kimi play.
“You’ve had two turns now,” Wolff allegedly said while wagging his finger like Dikembe Mutombo. “You said before the race you wanted another one. That was another one. Hand it over.”
Russell initially attempted to insist he was “on a hot streak” and that it wasn’t fair to switch drivers while he was hot.
Team sources say Wolff simply shifted his gaze toward Kimi, pointing at the rookie with sad eyes, as Antonelli sat cross-legged outside the garage waiting for his turn.
“It’s Kimi’s turn now,” Wolff explained. “We can talk about another turn after dinner.”
Russell later admitted he has no intention of giving it back.
“As the number one I should be able to keep going,” he said. “I’m the number one driver. Right, Toto? I’m the number one. Say it. Why won’t you say it? Just say it.”
